New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has requested PM Modi to retain a 14-member staff like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and PV Narasimha Rao.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the government has reduced the size of personal staff support to the former prime minister from 14 to five in May.
In a letter to Prime Minister, Singh said the above mentioned former prime ministers had also availed the same and the precedent should be maintained.
Singh, in his letter, had mentioned that his government had allowed Vajpayee to retain his staff after being voted out of power in 2004. He said the former prime ministers are allowed to have a 14-member staff after a decision taken by the Narasimha Rao government to the effect in 1990s.
According to reports, the PMO’s letter dated May 26 had informed Singh about the government’s decision to reduce the size of his staff. The five staffers include two personal assistants, one lower division clerk and two peons.
The Modi government took the decision to the effect three days after it was voted back to power with a landslide majority.
