Man held for extortion bid in Cuttack


Cuttack: Commissionerate Police on Saturday arrested a man on charges of kidnapping and extortion in Cuttack. The arrested person has been identified as Anand Ram.

According to police, Ram had demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from a trader after kidnapping him. Later, a complaint was filed with the Jagatpur Police in this regard.

On the basis of the complaint, an investigation was initiated and the accused was apprehended. A car was also seized from him, the police said.

“The accused kidnapped the trader and took him to a secluded place in Chowdwar, where he beat him black and blue and robbed him of cash and other valuables,” Cuttack DCP Akhileshvar Singh said, adding that the accused has been forwarded to the court.

As per reports, many criminal cases are pending against Ram at different police stations and a warrant was also issued against him.

A probe have been initiated into the incident and, if required he might be taken on remand to draw out more information, Singh further said.
