Man drowns in Brahmani river at Vedvyas ghat


Rourkela: A 35-year-old man drowned while taking a dip in the Brahmani river at Vedvyas ghat in out outskirts of Rourkela City in Sundergarh district on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Pripurari Sahoo,  a native of Bihar. According to sources, Sahoo had come on a visit to his relative’s house at Dandiapalli here.

Sources said Sahoo along with this family members had come to Vedvyas Ghat near Panposh to pay homage to his ancestors. After performing rituals the family was taking a dip in the river when Sahoo slipped into deep water and went missing.

One of his family members also fell prey to the strong currents but was rescued by the locals, sources added.

On intimation, fire department personnel reached the spot and recovered the body from deep water after hours of ordeal.

Reportedly, the body has been seized by the police and sent for post-mortem. The body will be handed over to the bereaved family after autopsy.
