Cuttack: A man allegedly beat his mother-in-law to death with a cricket stump over a trivial issue at Gurkha colony near OMP Chowk under Cuttack Government Railway Police (GRP) limits on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Salge Hembram, a native of Kunta PS area in Mayurbhanj district. She was staying with her daughter and son-in-law in a makeshift house at Gurkha colony here.
According to reports, the accused son-in-law came home in an inebriated condition and asked his wife for more money to buy booze, following which an argument broke out between the duo. When the woman intervened and opposed such behaviour of his son-in-law, the situation turned violent.
In a fit of rage, the accused hit his mother-in-law’s head with a cricket stump killing her on the spot.
On receiving information, GRP personnel reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem to SCB Medical College and Hospital.
The Cuttack GRP has registered a case and launched a probe into the incident. The cops have also detained the deceased woman’s daughter for further interrogation into the matter. However, the accused son-in-law managed to flee the spot soon after the fatal attack.
