Man attempts suicide by jumping before moving train in Rourkela


Sundargarh: A man attempted to commit suicide by jumping in front of a speeding goods train at Bandhumunda area in Rourkela of Sundargarh district on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Feru Badaika (48), an employee of the railway department.

According to sources, an argument ensued between Feru and his wife over some issue late last night. The situation took an ugly turn after Feru, in a fit of rage, attacked his wife with a sharp weapon.

Hearing the scream of the woman, neighbours rushed to the spot. The locals immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Depressed over the incident, the man jumped in front of a moving train at around 7.30 AM today. Following this, Feru lost his one leg and sustained critical injuries on his head and chest.

Reportedly, he is undergoing treatment at the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in Rourkela.

Bandhamunda railway police have registered a case and launched a probe into the incident, added sources.
