Male passengers to be slapped with fines if found sitting on women seats

Bhubaneswar: Male passengers travelling in bus will soon be slapped with fines if found sitting on the seats reserved for women.

A man must avoid seats reserved for women as the authorities on Tuesday has decided to implement strict regulations against the male passengers who occupy ladies’ seats.

This was decided at a meeting between top officials of Commissionerate Police, representatives of five local Bus Owners’ Associations, SPOs at Police Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

Besides, an emergency toll-free number will soon be set up for women passengers to deal with any untoward incidents and safety while travelling in bus.

Apart from this, a lady official of Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) will also be added in the WhatsApp group of women Special Police Officers (SPOs) for better coordination between the police, public and transport authorities.
