Major train accident averted in Tamil Nadu as drivers applied brakes on time


Chennai: Two trains at Katpadi in Tamil Nadu were headed for a head-on collision on Tuesday had the drivers of the trains not applied brakes on time.

A major train accident was averted in the state in morning as two trains came on the same track in Vellore district. Railway sources said the train came on the same track at Katpadi.

The two trains, one an electric passenger train and the other one carrying water to Chennai from Katpadi, stopped just 100 meters from each other.

The Railways said it has launched an investigation into the incident which is a clear case of negligence.
