Phiringia: Police today cracked the murder case of Krushna Bagarti by arresting the main accused and retrieving an axe used in the crime. However, another accused is still at large.
The arrested person has been identified as Siman Kanhar of Behengia village under Kelapada GP and the absconding accused identified as Harish Kanhar of Tamatangi village under Dimiriguda GP of Phiringia block in Kandhamal district.
As per reports, on October 29, 2019, the body of Krushna Bagarti, a resident of Dedhasaru village under Panga Uparashi GP in Phiringia block, was found dumped in a pool of blood on the verandah of a shop at Gerupda village. Local sarpanch Premashila Jhankar had informed about it to Phiringia police.
Later, the family of the deceased lodged a complaint at the local PS. Following which, the police registered a case (107/19) and launched a probe.
According to the deceased’s family members, Bagarti had gone to see Kali Puja at Nuapada village on October 28, but failed to return home. The next morning his body was found with deep injury marks on the right side of the neck. It was alleged that Bagarti was murdered on suspicion of practising witchcraft, informed Phiringia IIC P Shyam Sundar Rao.
Following a probe and drawing information from various sources, the main accused behind the brutal murder was apprehend and an axe used in the crime also seized. He has been forwarded to the court, IIC Rao said, and added that another suspect in the case is on the run and efforts are on to nab him.
