Mumbai: The Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is in a catch -22 situation as the row over Shirdi Sai Baba’s birthplace escalates.

Thackeray is in trouble as villagers of Pathri have said that they will hold protests in Parbhani district if he retracts his statement on Shirdi Sai Baba’s birthplace.

This is the latest development amid ongoing indefinite shutdown in Shirdi over the controversy related to the birthplace of the 19th-century saint.

The Maharashtra Chief Minister recently announced a grant of Rs 100 cr for development of facilities at “Sai janmasthan” (birthplace) at Pathri in Parbhani district. Parbhani is a Congress stronghold. Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam has advised Thackeray not to intervene in people’s faith.

Thackeray is scheduled to hold a meeting with all the concerned parties at the state secretary to resolve the controversy on Monday.
