Lush ‘Kalpabata’ At Nemala Padmabana Turns Barren Due To Blanket Worm Attack; Devotees Say Bad Sign

Nemala: The age-old banyan tree at Padmabana-Mahapurusa Ahyutananda peeth here in Cuttack district has turned dry and barren after green leaves fell off the tree due to a kind of pest attack.

All the big banyan trees here have the similar condition which is responsible for a reduction in devotees footfall for last few days.

Locals said they have never seen such condition of the pious trees. It might be a sign of  bad days ahead for the world, said devotees.

The environment has turned dry due to leaf-less trees. Local administrative officers and horticulture experts visited the spot and assured the pilgrims of action. They said such condition is due to blanket worm attack.

The administration has also sanitized the place and sprayed pesticide into the trees. New leaves will re-grow soon, they said.

The pest attack has also marred the daily rituals of the peeth.

As ‘Kumar Purnima’ is approaching, huge congregation from in and outside the district is expected to mark the event here. In view of this, locals demanded immediate action to control the pest attack.
