Low Pressure Over BoB: Odisha To Witness Widespread Rains, Thunderstorms

Bhubaneswar: The low pressure area, likely to form over north Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood around June 11, will become more marked during subsequent 24 hours, informed the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

“A cyclonic circulation lies over Eastcentral and adjoining Northeast Bay of Bengal between 4.5 & 5.8 km above mean sea level. A Low Pressure Area is Likely to form over North Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around 11th June, 2021. It is likely to more marked during subsequent 24 hours,” said the IMD.

Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into entire Odisha during the next 2-3 days. Under its influence, widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy and isolated extremely heavy falls very likely over the districts of Odisha within 10 – 14th June 2021, the release added.

According to the release, also thunderstorm with moderate to severe lightning activity and scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain with isolated heavy rain in some places is very likely during the next two days.

Yellow Warning

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara Jagatsinghpur, Nabarangpur and Deogarh.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Odisha.

Day 2 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 10.06.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 11.06.2021)

Orange Warning

Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul and Sambalpur.

Yellow Warning

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur and Nabarangpur.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy falls at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Angul, Dhenkanal also heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Koraput.

Day 4 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 12.06.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 13.06.2021)

Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy falls at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul and also heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Deogarh, Jharsuguda.

Yellow Warning

Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Deogarh.

Wind Forecast: Squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely over central Bay of Bengal adjoining north Bay Bengal during June 10-12 and along and off Odisha coast & north Bay of Bengal adjoining west central Bay Bengal from June 11 to June 13.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea areas of central Bay of Bengal adjoining north Bay Bengal during June 10-12 and along and off Odisha coast & north Bay of Bengal adjoining west central Bay Bengal from June 11 to June 13.
