Srinagar: Security forces killed a terrorist in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday, officials said.
The terrorist, Umar Lone, was killed in Aragam village of Bandipora district in a joint operation of the army, local police and CRPF. He has been active since 2018 and was a Category 1 Let and TRF terrorist.
Addressing the press, Commander 3 Sector, Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Vipul Tyagi said, “We were getting reports of terrorist activities in the Aragam area of Bandipora for some time. We were keeping this area under constant surveillance. On the night of 16-17 June, we received specific intelligence based on which the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF launched a joint operation. During this operation, our ambush party saw some suspicious activity. On believing it, the ambush party opened fire on the terrorist and in this encounter, 1 terrorist Umar Lone was killed. Umar Lone has been an active Category 1 terrorist since 2018 and is currently associated with LeT and TRF”.
