Sundargarh: A 12-hour bandh called by lawyers demanding the establishment of a permanent bench of the Orissa High Court and special district status to Rourkela hit normal life across the region on Tuesday.
The functions of courts, Government offices and financial institutions across the region were paralysed due to the agitation.
Both commercial and passenger vehicles were off the roads as the agitators blocked National Highway-143 near Panposh Chhak by setting fire to tyres.
The agitators alleged that the government is not considering their demands despite continuous stir.
The agitators threatened that they would intensify their stir in coming days if the State Government continues to remain indifferent to their demands.
Members of various social and political organisations have extended their support to the lawyers’ stir.
Along with the Permanent High Court Bench demand, the lawyers have also demanded special district status to Rourkela.
