Kumar Mangalam Birla to grace 16th Convocation of NIT Rourkela tomorrow
Rourkela: Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of Aditya Birla Group, will grace the 16th Convocation of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela tomorrow as the chief guest.
The Annual Convocation event is scheduled to be held at NCC Ground of the institute in the Steel City on January 19.
While, Dr. Santrupt B. Misra, CEO of Carbon Black Business, will be the chairperson of the function, NIT Director Professor Animesh Biswas will present the report.
In this Convocation, NIT Rourkela will confer its much-valued degrees to 585 B. Tech., 22 B. Arch., 135 Dual Degree (B.Tech. and M.Tech.), 75 Integrated M.Sc. (5-year), 417 M.Tech, 12
(M.Sc., 5 M.A, 38 MBA, 11 M.Tech. (by Research) and 126 Ph.D. students.
During the 15th Annual Convocation, held on 20 January 2018, 570 B. Tech., 117 Dual degrees (B.Tech, and M.Tech.), 413 M.Tech., 44 Integrated M.Sc. (5-year), 104 M.Sc., 11 M.A, 33 MBA, 110 Ph.D., and 19 M.Tech. (by Research) students received their degrees.
As compared, the total number of graduates in this Convocation is 1540, which surpasses the previous convocation by 120.
After being declared an Institute of National Importance in 2007, NIT Rourkela has produced 9998 engineers, scientists, masters, and graduates in addition to 613 PhDs.
This academic calendar year, NIT Rourkela has been ranked among the top institutions internationally. NIT Rourkela has been ranked at 215th in QS Asia University Ranking, 2019. It has been placed at 27th position in QS Indian University Ranking 2019.
The Institute also has been ranked in 121st position in QS BRICS category, 2019. There is an increase of 53% in job offers compared to that of the 2016-17 academic year.
According to a press note, for the graduating batch of 2018, two significant records in placement statistics have been achieved. The total number of companies that visited the Campus for full-time employment crossed a double-century with a figure of 212. The total number of full-time job offers crossed the four-digit figure with 1016.
In the current academic session 2018-19, NIT Rourkela has already attracted more than 100 companies in various sectors for campus placement and more than 600 job offers have already been made. The highest annual package has gone up to Rs. 40.63 lakhs, the press note further mentioned.
