New Delhi: Odisha DGP, Abhay has been directed by the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) for an impartial probe into Kotpad tribal girl’s death. The Commission has urged the DGP to submit the action taken report (ATR) within a fortnight.

The tribal girl was found hanging on July 21, from a tree near Bagchuan village under Chitra panchayat in Kotpad in Koraput district.

Her family members had lodged an FIR at local police alleging rape and murder of the girl. The minor girl’s post mortem report, however, showed that she had committed suicide.

State Vice President the BJP, Sukeshi Oram, and the saffron party’s ST Morcha National Vice President, Kaliram Manjhi had urged the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes to intervene in the matter.

The BJP leaders demanded in their petition that the post-mortem report be made public. They alleged that there was manipulation in the case.

The leaders also demanded that an FIR be filed against the district authorities and police under the SC and ST (POA) Act and POCSO Act.
