Koraput: In a major crackdown, Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch has seized a huge quantity of Ganja at Pitaguda, Nandpur while it was being smuggles by being concealed in a tanker fitted with a tractor.
Reportedly, three peddlers, hailing from Uttar Pradesh along with two locals have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the case. The accused have been identified as Dharmjit Sharma, Rajnish Sharma and Kanhaiya Singh from UP and Madhududan Galari and Ugra Pujari (locals escorting the cannabis-laden vehicle).
As per reports, officials seized around 850 kg Ganja (cannabis/ Marijuana) and eventually apprehended the accused persons.
Officials also seized one tracker with the tanker, cash amounting to Rs 17,000, and other incriminating materials from the possession of the accused persons.
Meanwhile, a case under relevant sections of NDPS Act 1985 has also been registered at Nandpur police station. A probe into the case is underway, sources said.
