Khurda Excise Cops Nab Six Smugglers; 1.8 Quintal Ganja, Two Cars Seized

Khurda: The Khurda Excise personnel have busted a cannabis smuggling racket with the arrest of six smugglers and seizure of around 1.8 quintals of ganja from two cars at Godipada toll gate in the district.

In compliance with the direction of Excise Commissioner Mr. Ashish Kumar Singh, a squad led by Excise Deputy Superintendent Sumita Oram conducted a surprise check near Godipada toll gate and intercepted two suspicious cars.

According to reports, the excise personnel dressed as civilians kept a close watch near the toll gate. On the basis of reliable inputs, the cops intercepted two suspicious cars and upon search they found a huge cache of dry cannabis stashed in gunny bags from both the vehicles.

The seized cannabis weighing around 1.8 quintals is estimated to be worth around Rs 9 lakhs. Preliminary investigation reveals the arrested accused persons were smuggling the ganja consignments from Gajapati district to the state capital Bhubaneswar, said the Excise personnel.

Police said that the accused persons have been identified as Ramakant Raita (24), Sumbra Raita (20), Lajar Raita (27), Sunil Mandal, Manu Gomango, and Rabindra Raita, all hailing from different villages in Gajapati district. Two cars used for smuggling the cannabis have also been seized and all the accused have been forwarded to court, the police added.
