Khelo India Youth Games 2019 Day 2 results


Pune: The Under-21 Women’s hockey competition of the 2nd Khelo India Youth Games 2019 continued here today which saw Jharkhand, Odisha, Haryana and Punjab secure their berths in the Semi-Finals of the competition as the teams finished in the top two positions of their respective Pools.

The first match of the day saw Haryana defeat Chandigarh by a margin of 8-0 in their Pool B encounter. The win for Haryana saw them finish top of Pool B with three wins out of three matches and a tally of nine points. Goals for Haryana were scored by Jyoti (30′, 33′, 50′), Amandeep Kaur (6′, 12′), Amrinder Kaur (13′), Navneet Kaur (23′) and Manisha (29′).

The other Pool B match saw Punjab and Uttar Pradesh play out a well-contested 2-2 draw, which meant that Punjab edged out Uttar Pradesh on goal difference to progress to the Semi-Finals of the competition. Goals for Punjab were scored by GurleenGerwal (5′) and Gurkamal Kaur (26′) while Uttar Pradesh’s comeback was led by goals from captain Mumtaz Khan (35′) and Sonal Tiwari (58′).

Earlier on Tuesday, it was Jharkhand and Odisha who secured the top two places in Pool A respectively to progress to the Semi-Finals. Jharkhand finished with a tally of five points from three matches while Odisha finished with three points.
