Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader and MP Mallikarjun Kharge, who is one of the contestants for the post of party president, on Friday sought support of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee in the election to be held on October 17.
He arrived at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in the morning and received a rousing welcome from the top leaders of OPCC including, PCC president, MLAs, State In-Charge and other party functionaries.
Later, he held a meeting with the leaders at Congress Bhawan. He sought votes from the members of Pradesh Congress Committee which has strength of 428 votes.
Addressing a press conference, Kharge said, “I do not have any other election manifesto. My main aim is to implement the decisions of the party taken at Udaypur Chintan Shivir.”
The Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka was the Leader of the Opposition in the Upper House from 16 February 16, 2021 to October 1, 2022.
Another party bigwig Shashi Tharoor is also contesting for Congress president post.
