Puri: Khalilagi Ekadasi is observed on the 11th day during the waning phase of moon in the month of June/July. Khalilagi Ekadashi is observed mainly in Odisha and in Jagannath temples. It falls before Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra. The corresponding Ekadasi fasting in other regions is known as Yogini Ekadashi. In 2022, the date of Khalilagi Ekadasi is June 24.

Sarbhanga neeti ritual which involves use of large amount of Sandalwood paste is performed on Khalilagi Ekadasi at Jagannath Temples. This is also an important ritual at Puri Jagannath Temple.

The idols of Jagannath, Subhadra and Balabhadra will not be there in Puri Jagannath Temple during Khalilagi Ekadashi as they will be recuperating after the Snana Purnima.

The paste of ‘Khali’, prepared by the Suddha Suaras, is applied to the body of the idols on the day of Khalilagi Ekadashi. Besides, the Trinity is offered basil leaves.
