Kendrapara boat capsize: Centre announces ex-gratia for victims kin


Bhubaneswar: The Central Government has announced compensation to the family of the deceased persons and financial aid to each person injured in the Kendrapara boat capsize incident.

As per the announcement, an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to next of kin of the deceased and financial assistance of Rs 50,000 will be provided to each person injured during the boat capsize.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in a letter to the Kendrapara Collector has asked to furnish the total fund requirement along with list incorporating the names of the deceased, their next of kin and seriously injured persons with their complete postal address.

Jagatsinghpur Collector has also been intimated in this connection since most of the victims of the mishap hailed from the coastal district.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had earlier announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of deceased and free medical treatment to the injured persons.

Notably, a country boat carrying around 55 persons had capsized in Mahanadi river confluence near Nipania under Mahakalapada block of Kendrapara district on January 2. The group was returning from a picnic party from Paradip when the tragedy struck them.

Ten people including two women and eight children were killed in the mishap.
