Kendrapara: Angry over the murder attempt on Rammandir President Bibekanand Moharana, an eight-hour bandh has been called across Kendrapara district today.
The agitation has been called by Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, and Banika Sangha. The protestors are demanding the immediate arrest of the accused persons.
However, poll-bound Patkura assembly constituency has been exempted from the purview of the bandh. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is likely to visit the district today for campaign trail for Patkura by-poll.
According to the sources, the agitators staged road blockade at Cuttack-Chandabali Tinimuhani Chaka, while shops, business establishments, educational institution and government offices remained closed.
Vehicular movement was also disrupted due to picketing by the protesters. However, emergency services have been exempted from the purview of the bandh.
Five platoons of police force have been deployed in the area in order to avoid any untoward situation.
Notably, Bibekanand Moharana (45), a businessman and local Rammandir President, sustained critical injuries after being shot at by unidentified miscreants near Dandamunda in Gulnagar on July 13.
