Karnataka govt identifies 35 detention centres to house immigrants


Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has informed High Court about 35 detention centres in all districts to house illegal immigrants in the state.

Reports said the BS Yediyurappa-led government stated that 35 empty lots were identified to set up temporary Foreigners Detention Centres (FDC) across the state to lodge illegal immigrants.

The state government was responding to a petition filed in the High Court challenging detention of illegal migrants from Bangladesh.

The state government has said the Karnataka High Court was also told that 612 cases were registered against 866 foreigners for overstaying their visa period.
