Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna, 92, passed away at his residence in Sadashivanagar, Bengaluru, after enduring age-related health issues. His demise has plunged the state into mourning, prompting the Karnataka government to declare a three-day mourning to honour the esteemed leader.
A government holiday has been announced for tomorrow, December 11, throughout the state impacting all government offices, schools, and colleges. This holiday is intended to provide citizens the opportunity to their respects to the late leader.
In the wake of SM Krishna’s passing, Karnataka Congress leader DK Shivumar provided information regarding the funeral arrangements Addressing the media,akumar confirmed that SM Krishna’s body will be accessible for public viewing at his residence in Bengaluru until 8 am tomorrow. Subsequently, it will transported to his hometown of Maddur, where the public can pay their respects from 10 am to 3 pm.
SM Krishna’s political journey commenced in 1962 when he secured the Maddur assembly seat as an Independent. He later affiliated with the Congress party in 197, a brief engagement with the Praja Socialist Party. Throughout his, Krishna occupied various prominent positions, including Governor of Maharashtra from 200 to and served as India’s External Minister from 200 to 2012. In the final phase of his political career, Krishna shifted his allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
