Bengaluru: Bengaluru is currently experiencing a severe dengue outbreak, with the number of cases rising daily. Despite efforts by the health department, the spread of dengue continues unchecked, turning Bangalore into a hotspot for the disease.
In just four days, 785 dengue cases have been reported across the state, with over 400 cases in Bengaluru alone. The situation is alarming, with almost half the state’s dengue patients residing in the city.
The escalating number of dengue cases is especially worrying for children, who are most at risk from the virus. Parents are being urged to take preventive measures to safeguard their children from this potentially fatal disease. The increasing dengue crisis has intensified the call for a vaccine.
Currently, there is no dengue vaccine available in India, but two vaccines, Dengvaxia and Qdenga, have shown promising results in Thailand and have been developed in the United States. The Serum Institute in India has conducted trial rounds and pending regulatory approvals, these vaccines could soon be available in India.
These vaccines are especially effective for children over six years old, who are the most affected by dengue in the state. The monsoon rains have worsened the spread of dengue, with hundreds of new cases being reported daily.
Unfortunately, on Sunday, four more people, including two children, died due to dengue-related complications. Although the health department has not officially confirmed dengue as the cause of death, these cases underscore the seriousness of the outbreak.
