Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam 2 sets ticket windows on fire

Chennai: Despite hitting in a limited number of screens in India, Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam 2 had a roaring start at the box office surpassing Baahubali: The Conclusion’s record in Chennai on the opening day.

According to analysts Vishwaroopam 2 has minted approximately Rs 93 lakh in Chennai. The film did not even have advance booking for tickets as there was uncertainty over the film’s release.

Further, the Kamal Haasan film has beaten the opening day collections of Baahubali: The Conclusion, which had grossed around Rs 92 lakh in two languages – Tamil and Telugu.

The film has been receiving a mixed response from critics and audience. It’s yet to be seen if Vishwaroopam 2 would hold steady over the weekend.

According to reports, the film now lies in the sixth position at the Chennai box office in the list of biggest openers. Rajinikanth’s Kaala (Rs 1.75 crore) tops the list which is followed by Ajith’s Vivegam (Rs 1.21 crore), Kabali (Rs 1.12 crore) and Vijay’s Theri (Rs 1.05 crore).

Vishwaroopam 2 is directed by Kamal Haasan, starring himself with Pooja Kumar and Andrea Jeremiah in the lead roles. The film was released worldwide on August 10; five years after its prequel hit the theatres.
