Kalinga Stadium bears Rs 11 crore loss due to Cyclone FANI


Bhubaneswar: The Centre’s Inter-Ministerial Team on Wednesday conducted on-the-spot assessment of the damage caused by Cyclone FANI in Kalinga Stadium.

The 11-member Central Team reached the Kalinga Stadium at 8 am this morning and went around to assess the damages caused to the hockey stadium.

Soon after the inspection, Odisha Sports Secretary Vishal Dev, who also accompanied the delegation, informed that approximately Rs 11 crore damage have been incurred to Kalinga Stadium due to Cyclone FANI.

He further informed that a lift and the roof of the Athletic stadium, which has been completely damaged, needs replacement. Damage has been also noticed in the turf and ground including shattered glasses of rooms.

“The restoration work needs to be done on a war footing as the FIH Men’s Series Final 2019 scheduled from June 6 at Kalinga Stadium is approaching,” the State Sports Secretary added.

The Central Team also visited Rasulgarh via Kalaraput slum for damage assessment. With this, the team today concluded its on-the-spot assessment of the damage caused by Cyclone FANI.
