New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud, Judge, Supreme Court as the Chief Justice of India with effect from 9th November, said Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday.

In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, Hon’ble President appoints Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud, Judge, Supreme Court as the Chief Justice of India with effect from 9th November, 22.

Chandrachud’s formal oath-taking ceremony as the Chief Justice of India will be held on 9th November 2022, as reported by news agency ANI.
Justice Chandrachud will take over as the 50th Chief Justice of India after the retirement of the current CJI UU Lalit. On October 11, outgoing CJI UU Lalit recommended Justice Chandrachud as his successor. Justice Chandrachud’s tenure as CJI will be till November 10, 2024.
