Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) got a full-time chairperson after a gap of seven years with the state government appointing justice Bimal Prasad Das for the top post.
Governor Professor Ganeshi Lal has approved the appointment of justice BP Das, a former Orissa High Court. The post of OHRC chairperson was lying vacant since November 23, 2012.
In the absence of a permanent chairperson, Justice Raghubir Dash was officiating as the acting chairman of the commission since May 16, 2019.
Earlier, R N Bohida and Justice B K Mishra had also served as acting chairpersons of the rights body.
The Governor also appointed High Court lawyer Asim Amitabh Dash as the member of the OHRC, according to a notification issued by the Law Department.
