Jumbo herd unleash menace in Ganjam village

Berhampur: A herd of 12 elephants has been creating havoc at Govindnagar village under Chikiti block in the district since the last couple of days damaging crops.

According to sources, the herd entered into the village from the nearby forest a few days ago. Paddy crop belonging to a farmer was ravaged by the tuskers, while some cash crops cultivated were destroyed.

Besides, the pachyderms savoured 250 sacks of paddy of five farmers stacked at farmland.

The district forests officials swung into action after being informed of the menace unleashed by the pachyderms. The DFO has directed the officers to help villagers in distress.
