Dhenkanal: In another recent development in the Dhenkanal elephant electrocution tragedy, the Odisha Crime Branch (CB) arrested two forest officials and one junior engineer of Central Electrical Supply Unit (CESU).
The arrested officials are Meramandali section forester Prabhakar Rana, forest guard Girish Dehury and CESU junior engineer Sanjay Mohanty.
On October 28, the Forest Department had lodged an FIR against five CESU officials at Kantabania Police Station. The plaint was filed on the basis of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had ordered a CB probe into the death of the pachyderms and directed authorities concerned to take appropriate action, in case of any criminal negligence.
In compliance with the directives, a four-member CB team had visited Dhenkanal to conduct an investigation into the matter.
It should be mentioned here that, seven elephants of the 13-elephant herd died on the spot after coming in contact with the low-hanging live 11KV wire that was laid by the railway department temporarily for track construction work at Kamalanga village under Sadar Forest Range in Dhenkanal district.
