Judges Waylaid In Sambalpur As HC Bench Demand Intensified

Sambalpur: Taking the movement one step ahead, the lawyers in Sambalpur under the banner of Central Action Committee (CAC) on Wednesday intensified the agitation demanding a permanent division of High Court bench in western Odisha.

Judges also faced the protest as advocates waylaid them and prostrated infront of them requesting to cooperate with the movement in the larger interest of western Odisha people. Sambalpur district judge and others could not enter the court premises as the lawyers bowed down on the street.

The judges also held a discussion with the protesters for around half an hour and finally returned.

“We didn’t take law into our hands. So, we prayed the judges by bowing down to help us in the mass movement for establishment of High Court bench which is our year-long legitimate demand,” a protester said.

A CAC delegation is also scheduled to meet High Court chief Justice today in Cuttack and hold discussion.

Another protester slammed the lackadaisical attitude of the state government in taking appropriate measures for the purpose.

“The CM had written to the Centre over establishment of High Court bench in western Odisha. But, why he is delaying in submitting a comprehensive proposal to Centre”, he asked.

The CAC had earlier sought a reply from the Chief Minister on the steps taken by the government regarding submission of a full-fledged proposal to Centre over setting up of High Court bench. However, the Committee has not yet received any feedback from the CM.

The CAC had earlier warned of forceful entry into the Lok Sabha Bhawan if the CM doesn’t inform them over the measures taken by the State for the purpose.
