JSW Steel adopts all tigers of Nandankanan Zoological Park for a year

Bhubaneswar: As a part of its corporate social responsibility programme JSW Steel Limited, Odisha has come forward to extend support for the “Adopt an animal” programme of Nandankanan Zoological Park, Bhubaneswar by adopting all the 27 tigers for a year. A draft for an amount of Rupees Twenty-nine Lacs for the same was handed over to the authorities at the 61st Nandankanan foundation day function held yesterday at the Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar.

The amount will be spent for the healthcare and fooding of tigers and animals which have taken a hit because of the shortage of funds due to the closure of park earlier during the pandemic.

Speaking about the initiative Mr Ranjan Nayak, COO JSW Steel Ltd Barbil, Odisha said,” Coronavirus pandemic has caused significant disruption to businesses world over, but the Zoos seem to have been struggling the most with lack of visitors. It is for the larger cause of preservation of fauna and tigers in particular which is our national animal that we have taken this small step. We are thankful to everyone who have been standing for this noble cause.”

Speaking during the foundation day function Mr Rakesh Mishra Head HR, JSW Steel Ltd, Barbil Odisha lauded the efforts of Nandankanan staff who had given their best in taking care of the animals during the pandemic.

Present among others, during the foundation day function were Mr Bikram Keshari Arukha- Minister of Forest and Environment, Government of Odisha, Mr Suresh Kumar Routray- MLA Jatni, Mr Sushant Rout- MLA Bhubaneswar North, Dr Mona Sharma Additional Chief Secretary, Forest & Environment, Mr Hari Shankar Upadhyay, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and wildlife warden, Mr Shashi Paul- Director Nandankanan, officials from Nandankanan including visitors from all walks of life and public relations and CSR team of JSW Steel Ltd.
