J&K: Nine people were killed and 33 injured after a bus carrying pilgrims to Shivkhori in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi fell into a gorge after it came under terrorist attack on Sunday, said the police.
The attack happened in the evening in Pouni area of Reasi district while the bus carrying pilgrims from Shiv Khori to Katra. The bus veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge as the terrorists opened fire at the pilgrim bus, said the police.
With the help of local villagers, the police evacuated all the passengers. The evacuation was supervised by SP Reasi, who ensured the injured were sent to various hospitals, the police statement added. A rescue operation was initiated, with additional support from the police, army, and paramilitary forces, who rushed to the spot, they said.
A joint security force comprising Police, Army and CRPF has been set up at the location and a thorough operation has been initiated to find the attackers.
This attack signifies a substantial increase in regional violence. The Reasi district, in contrast to neighbouring areas like Rajouri and Poonch, has been relatively untouched by terrorist activities.
