Jharsuguda: Residents of Charbhati village under Loisingha GP of Jharsuguda block have urged the Tehsildar to put a halt on rampant sand lifting from Basundhara river.
They alleged that the sand mafia have gone out of their limit and are threatening, those who oppose their illegal activity, with dire consequences.
The local Samiti Member is also hand in glove with the sand smugglers and threatened them to implicate in false cases, they alleged.
The village women alleged that the sand mafia are indulging in an extensive excavation of sand from the ghats where they used to take bath and fetch water for their household chores.
