Jharsuguda MLA Naba Das quits Congress, to join BJD on Jan 24


Bhubaneswar: In a jolt to Odisha Congress, senior leader and Jharsuguda MLA Naba Kishore Das on Wednesday resigned from the primary membership of the party and from the post of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) working president.

Das is likely to join the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on January 24. Das said he would join the ruling party for the development of his constituency and made it clear that he has no qualms with OPCC chief Niranjan Patnaik.

According to sources, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will visit Amalipali in Jharsuguda district on January 24 to address a meeting. The CM will formally make an announcement about the induction of Das into the party.

On the occasion, the CM will also launch a cancer hospital, drinking water supply project, modern diagnostic centre and pathology centre and Choukipada railway over-bridge.
