Deogarh: The Odisha Vigilance on Thursday apprehended a Junior Engineer (JE) of Tileibani Block in Deogarh district while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000.
The accused has been identified as Bijayananda Sahu.
According to reports, Sahu has demanded Rs 8,000 from a Complainant (Contractor) for facilitating the release of the final bill for the work executed by him.
On the basis of the complaint, Vigilance laid a trap and caught Sahu with the bribe money. The entire bribe amount of Rs 8,000 has been recovered from him and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations associated with Sahu.
In this connection, Rourkela Vigilance PS Case No.24 dt.19.10.2022, U/s 7 P.C. (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered. An investigation is in progress against the accused Jr Engineer, the Vigilance said.
