Jayalalithaa’s Veda Nilayam to be converted into memorial


Chennai: The residence of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, Veda Nilayam, will be converted into memorial, according to reports.

The Chennai District Collectorate  has given the green signal for the same. The final report of the Chennai collector was made public after holding public consultation with residents of Poes Garden.

The number 81, Veda Nilayam, Poes Garden, was Jayalalithaa’s home from last 35 years until she passed away in 2016. The house was purchased by her mother Vedavalli in 1967 reportedly for Rs 1.32 lakh and was one of the most popular addresses in Tamil Nadu.

In 2017, former CM O Panneerselvam had launched a signature campaign to turn it into a memorial and it received an overwhelming response from the people of the state.
