Japan Open 2018: PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy make an exit


Japan: PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy had to make an exit from the badminton singles event at Japan Open 2018 as both lost in the second round to their respective opponents following a straight game.

Prannoy lost against world number 10 Anthony Ginting of Indonesia in sets of 14-21 and 17-21.

Sindhu lost to world number 14 Gao Fangjie of China in a straight game of 18-21 and 19-21. Though, Sindhu managed to draw level at 13-13 in the opening game, Gao held her down towards the end of the first set and continued to dominate in the second set.

World number three, Sindhu who won a silver medal at the 18th Asian Games, won the first round in the tournament on Wednesday. She won against Sayaka Takahashi in sets of 21-17, 7-21 and 21-13.

With Saina Nehwal not being a part of the tournament, Sindu’s loss ends the Indian team’s campaign at the tournament.
