Jajpur: In a heartbreaking event, an 8-year-old girl died, and her father sustained critical injuries after a section of the Rengali canal embankment collapsed at Kalinga Nagar in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Friday morning.
The young victim was identified as Gita Munda (8), daughter of Ishwar Munda from Baunsanali village within the jurisdiction of the Kalinga Nagar police. Tragically, Gita had already passed away by the time her body was recovered from the canal.
Reports indicate that the father and daughter were near the canal this morning when a mudslide washed away part of the embankment, burying them beneath the mud.
Upon notification, Fire Services and police teams immediately responded to the scene and began rescue efforts. Gita was taken to the Dangadi Community Health Center (CHC), where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Her father, Ishwar, was transported in critical condition to the government hospital in Sukinda.
At the time of the accident, a company called ‘Right Triangle’ was conducting operations at the site. Local residents have claimed that the embankment’s collapse was due to substandard construction work.
