New Delhi: Indian batsmen Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have climbed swiftly in the T20I rankings following their impressive performances in the recent series against Zimbabwe.
Following their T20 World Championship victory, a youthful Indian team, without any members from the winning squad in the Caribbean, began with an unexpected loss in the first match but rebounded to win the next four games consecutively, securing the series 4-1.
Captain Shubman Gill was at the forefront, leading with the bat. Missing out on India’s T20 World Cup team by a narrow margin, Gill was the top scorer in the Zimbabwe series, amassing 170 runs in five matches. Consequently, he ascended 36 spots to 37th in the batting rankings.
Gill now ranks as the fourth-highest Indian player in the T20I rankings, surpassing the recently retired pair of Rohit Sharma (42nd) and Virat Kohli (51st), trailing only behind Suryakumar Yadav (second), Jaiswal (sixth), and Ruturaj Gaikwad (eighth).
Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was benched during the World Cup, made an immediate impact upon joining the squad in Harare after the first two games. He scored 141 runs in the series, advancing four places to sixth, just behind the top-ranked batter Travis Head and Suryakumar Yadav in second place.
Jaiswal has achieved his highest T20I ranking to date.
Zimbabwe’s fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani moved up 11 spots to 44th among T20I bowlers after claiming six wickets against India, while Washington Sundar (rising 36 places to 46th) and Mukesh Kumar (climbing 21 spots to 73rd) also made significant strides in the same category following their performances in the series.
England’s Adil Rashid continues to hold the top position for T20I bowlers, and the Sri Lankan spinner remains slightly ahead in the T20I all-rounder rankings, with Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza making gains.
