New Delhi: Jagdish Khattar, the former Managing Director (MD) of Maruti Suzuki India, breathed his last this morning following a cardiac arrest. He was 78.
Khattar, a former bureaucrat, was considered as one of the most high-profile leaders of the Indian automotive industry.
He served in the automaker from 1993-2007. Khattar joined as director of marketing at Maruti Udyog and was later elevated as MD in 1999 first as nominated by the government and then by Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) in 2002.
In 2003 when Maruti became a wholly-owned Suzuki subsidiary, the Japanese carmaker appointed Khattar as MD as well, where he remained until his retirement in December 2007.
After that, he decided to set up his own venture of multi-brand car sales and service network, Carnation.
