New York:Â According to the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), continuous Israeli attacks have caused more than 123,000 individuals to be internally displaced in Gaza.
Four significant residential towers in Gaza City were destroyed due to Israeli airstrikes and shelling that damaged homes and apartment complexes. The U.N. office reported that nine ambulances, seven medical facilities, and six healthcare professionals have all been injured or murdered.
According to an early Tuesday statement from the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have seriously damaged 5,330 homes and destroyed 790. Due to damage, 4,00,000 people can no longer access water and sanitation facilities.
Tens of thousands of Gazans never stopped leaving. More than 187,000 of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents have fled their homes, according to the U.N., the highest number since Israel’s air and ground offensive in 2014 uprooted over 4,00,000 people.
Over 1,37,000 individuals are housed by UNRWA, the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, in schools all over the region.Â
More than half of those who have been displaced, according to UNRWA, are taking refuge at several schools. According to the office, UNRWA has designated emergency shelters to house them and offer vital assistance.
Cash help is also critically needed in Gaza for both the host communities and the displaced. It was said that humanitarian partners are striving to give affected families dignity kits and psychosocial help.
The World Food Programme (WFP) has started providing fresh bread and canned goods to up to 100,000 internally displaced individuals in Gaza who are finding sanctuary in UNRWA shelters.
As the situation changes over the coming days, the WFP plans to provide up to 800,000 people with food and financial aid, assuming the necessary funds are available. To reach 805,000 individuals in the coming month, the WFP will require $16.8 million.
Past years have seen a recurrence of hostilities between Israel and Hamas, frequently precipitated by tensions over a holy site in Jerusalem. This time, the situation could be more explosive. Both parties have discussed using violence to end the protracted Israeli-Palestinian standoff caused by the failed peace process.
