Iran releases 9 Indian crew detained with ship MT Riah


New Delhi: Iran has freed nine Indian crew members detained with ship MT Riah. Three members are still in custody, the government has announced on Friday.

There are 12 crew members onboard ship MT Riah which was detained by Iran.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that the ship was detained by the Iranian Coast Guard on July 13 along with 12 Indian crew members. The statement said that the freed Indians will travel back to the country soon.

The Indian embassy in Tehran has asked the West Asian country’s government to release the remaining Indian crew as well.
