Jharsuguda: Police busted a cricket betting racket and arrested two persons in connection with the case. Besides, over Rs 6 lakh in cash, a mobile phone, bank passbook, and some notebooks were seized from the possession of the accused.
The accused persons have been identified as Harish Sahoo of Malipadar and Md Akil Azizi Motivala of Tata Gali.
Acting on specific information about the cricket betting racket in Jharsuguda town, a special team was formed and a raid was conducted at a building located at Gosala road. During the raid, police apprehended two accused while playing IPL cricket batting online by betting money from different callers by organising illegal syndicate.
Sources said the accused persons used to play in various online betting websites. The said websites were managed to run by Admins, who have created a number of Stockists under them and Distributors are under the control of Stockists.
A case was registered against the accused persons under relevant sections of IPC and forwarded to court, said an official.
