Berhampur: Ganjam Police on Tuesday busted an IPL betting racket in Haladiapadar, Konisi area and arrested five persons with the seizure of Rs 4.56 lakh and other valuables.

According to reports, the arrested were identified as Dipu Nahak, Kitu Rout (36), Ashwini Kumar Patra (31), Prashant Kumar Sahu (38) and Gopinath Maharana (28).

On the instructions of Berhampur SP, a police team led by Gosaninuagaon IIC Smriti Prabha Pradhan raided the Haladiapadar, Konisi area and nabbed five persons from the spot. Police have seized Rs 4.56 lakh cash, 203 gms of gold, nine mobile phones, one car and from them.

Addressing a presser here today, Berhampur Dr Sarvana Vivek M today warned the public to stay away from lucrative offers given by IPL betting bookies.

A case under sections (78/22) has been registered and the accused persons have been forwarded to the court, informed SDPO Bishnu Prasad Pati.

With the start of IPL season, online betting is on the rise and many students and adults are falling prey to gambling to try their luck.
