IPL betting case: Arbaaz Khan summoned by Mumbai police


MUMBAI: Actor, director and producer Arbaaz Khan has reportedly been summoned by Thane police in Maharashtra for questioning in connection with a betting racket in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Thane police asked Arbaaz, the younger brother of superstar Salman Khan, to record his statement after his name came up during the interrogation of a betting accused, Sonu Jalan. Jalan was arrested in connection with the betting racket on Tuesday.

According to sources, the police investigating into the betting racket suspect that Jalan placed bets on behalf of Arbaaz during the recent IPL season. Jalan is said to be close to the Dawood Ibrahim gang that runs a cricket betting mafia from Pakistan and UAE.

Jalan used to maintain a diary with details of clients and bookies. He has a number of cases registered against him. His name had even appeared when the Mumbai Police busted an IPL scam in 2012.

Another film personality, Vindu Dara Singh, was arrested in 2013 by the Mumbai police for cricket betting, specifically spot-fixing. He was later released on bail.
