IOCL’s pipeline develops leak near Rourkela

Rourkela: Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL)’s pipeline developed a leak near Rama Bahal under Rajgangpur police station limits in Rourkela on Monday night reportedly causing diesel spill over to acres of farmland. The pipeline was carrying diesel from Paradip refinery to Ranchi.

The emergency services were pressed into action including IOCL staff, district fire authorities and police team were rushed to the spot to plug and assess the damage. Restoration work is in progress, sources said.

As soon as the news spread, locals rushed to the spot and started collecting the spilled oil in buckets, utensils and other containers.

Police suspect that miscreants tried to break open the underground pipes to steal oil, however, the exact reason behind the leakage is yet to be established.

The district agriculture officials will assess the fields for the possible damage to the land fertility due to the spill,” an official said.
