New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s post that revealed the identity of the parents of a minor girl who was raped and murdered in Delhi, has been removed by Social media sites Instagram and Facebook.

Earlier this week, Facebook had issued a notice to the Congress leader, asking him to take down the post.

In its letter, Facebook wrote, “A post you uploaded through your Instagram account is unlawful under Section 74 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015; Section 23 of the POCSO Act, 2012; and Section 288A of the Indian Penal Code. In accordance with NCPCR’s notice, you are requested to remove this post expeditiously.”

Facebook, which owns Instagram, then submitted an action report to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).

The NCPCR had earlier summoned the social media giant over its non-action on the post. However, after Facebook issued the notice to Rahul Gandhi, the commission had withdrawn its direction.

The NCPCR had asked Facebook to take appropriate action against Rahul Gandhi’s Instagram account over violation of provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and the Indian Penal Code.

On August 1, a nine-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped, murdered and forcibly cremated in southwest Delhi, leading to widespread outrage and protest.
