Raipur: In two separate incidents in Chhattisgarh, BSF personnel was killed in IED blast while a Maoist was gunned down in an encounter ahead of polls which is scheduled to take place on Monday.
The BSF team was on patrol duty when Naxals detonated improvised explosive device (IED) in Kanker forest region, Inspector General of Police (Raipur range) Dipanshu Kabra said. Kabra said, BSF sub-inspector Mahendra Singh was severely injured and succumbed to injuries while being taken to hospital. Kabra was given the responsibility of a nodal officer for election related security.
Naxals have blown up four IEDs in a fortnight.
Earlier, a Maoist, clad in ‘uniform’ was shot dead in exchange of fire with security forces in Bijapur district, located around 450 km from here.
The exchange of fire took place at a forest in Bedre area when a team of the Special Task Force (STF) was out on an anti-Naxal operation, a senior police official said.
The body of the rebel and a rifle were recovered from the spot, he said.
